The plant smells like citrus, causing a more uncomfortable environment for mosquitos and other insects. You may also crush the leaves and rub the oil from the plant directly on your skin for added discouragement to insects. These plants can be outdoors in summer in most of the US. If in danger of frost, bring plants indoors.
